Smaller rectangular pillow or purse with two paw prints on the back side. You can make the bag with handles of 3 different lengths. The pillow can be made with an opening at the bottom to stitch in an out-of-sight zipper.

This pattern includes:

  • Written instructions in American crochet terminology for a shoulder bag with an optional bottom and a pillow, graphs / charts, videos for stitches, techniques, and first few rounds, instructions for lining with step pictures.

 

Size:

  • Bag and Pillow: Width x Height: 37cm x 27cm/ 14 ½'' x 10 ⅝''

  • Bag handles: 20 (54, 76)cm/ 8 (21 ¼, 30)'' for hand-bag (short length shoulder-bag, medium length shoulder-bag). Prototype features 54cm/ 21 ¼''/ short length shoulder-bag handles.

 

Recommended materials:

Yarn:

  • Scheepjes Whirlette (60% Katoen x 40% Acryl, Fingering/ 4 laags gewicht, 100g/ 455m)
    of Scheepjes
    Whirl (60% Cotton x 40% Acrylic, Fingering/ 4 ply weight, 215-225g/ 1000m)

    • Bag:

  1. Yarn1 (light): 95g

  2. Yarn2 (dark) for a bag with a bottom: 135(160, 175)g (including 25g for bottom, 70g for bag body, 10g for upper edge backing, 30(55, 70)g for for hand-bag (short length shoulder-bag, medium length shoulder-bag)

  3. Yarn3 (nose and eyes): 3g and 5g

  • Bag prototype (without a bottom):

  1. 157g/ 1 Whirl in 751 Liquorice Yumyum: Yarn1 (light): 89g, Yarn2 (dark for bag body): 62g, Yarn2 (dark for upper edge backing): 6g.
    To replicate the prototype, divide Whirl into two portions: 145g (lighter) and 79g (darker). From the light end of the lighter portion, wind off 18g of solid white (use it for optional whiskers or another project), use rem yarn from inside (lighter end) as Yarn1.
    For Yarn2, use darker portion from inside (lighter end).

  2. 70g/ 1 Whirlette in 851 Liquorice: bag bottom: 20g, short length shoulder-bag handles: 50g.

  • Pillow:

  1. Yarn1 (light): 95g

  2. Yarn2 (dark): 70g

  3. Yarn3 (nose and eyes): 3g and 5g

  • Crochet hooks 2.5mm and 2.75mm (for bag handles)

 

Other materials and tools for a bag:

  • 37cm/ 14 ⅝'' of pre-quilted fabric (bag height + ½ of the bottom width + 6cm/ 2 3/8'')

  • 9cm x 78cm/ 3 ½'' x 30'' piece of buckram or Pellon 70 Peltex Sew-In Ultra Firm Stabilizer to reinforce the upper edge (bag width x 2 + 4cm/ 1 ½'')

  • Optional for reinforcing the bottom: 28.5cm x 6cm/ 11 ¼'' x 2 ⅜'' piece of plastic canvas (bag bottom measurements minus 2cm/ ¾'' from each side)

  • Sewing machine, sewing thread (match lining and handles)

  • 1 x sew-on magnetic clasp

  • Tapestry needle


Other materials and tools for a pillow:

  • Pillow insert (1-2cm bigger than finished size)

  • Optional: 32cm invisible zipper (pillow width minus 5cm)
